Colin Morgan has admitted that he does not believe a Merlin movie will ever be made.
Speculation that the show could hit the big screen has been around for some time, and intensified last July when the show’s executive producers confirmed plans to make a movie trilogy.
However, speaking backstage at the National Television Awards shortly after he won the gong for ‘Best Drama Performance: Male’, Morgan confessed that he doesn’t know whether the films will ever come to fruition.
Asked by Digital Spy about the status of the movies, he said: “I don’t think that’s going to happen. But who knows - let’s see what happens when the future comes.”
Morgan did say, however, that he would love to work with the Merlin cast again in the future.
“I hope so,” he said. “We’re definitely going to stay friends. We just made loads of friends on the show - that’s the important thing, I think.”
Morgan also told reporters that Merlin fans had offered him “fantastic support” and confirmed that he is now working alongside Gabriel Byrne in the upcoming BBC detective drama Quirke.
“It’s set in 1950s Dublin and it’s based on books by Benjamin Black, the first three novels by him,” Morgan said. “Although I am working in Ireland I am doing a Dublin accent, so I don’t get to use my own accent. Hopefully soon I will!”
